NATIONAL DEFENSE UNIVERSITY
Institution: Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction
Position: Multiple Research Positions
Deadline: May 15
The Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD Center) at the National Defense University invites applications for several positions to support its new education program. The WMD Center has a broad mission to enhance the understanding of weapons of mass destruction and related security implications. Since its creation in 1994, it has provided research and analytic support to a wide range of government offices and has pursued a broad education and outreach agenda. Recently, the Joint Chiefs of Staff designated it as the focal point within the professional military education (PME) system (which includes the military academies, intermediate command and staff colleges, as well as senior level colleges, such as the National War College) for education relating to weapons of mass destruction. To carryout this mission, the WMD Center seeks to hire several well qualified individuals to help improve the quality of and access to WMD education in PME.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to developing instructional materials, such as syllabi, course modules, case studies, analytical readers, and games and simulations using multimedia methods. The incumbent will also be expected to work closely with individuals and components at PME institutions to promote WMD education and research. Lastly, the incumbent will be expected to contribute to the research, policy-support and outreach agendas of the other WMD Center programs as needed.
The WMD Center looks to fill three positions at the ranks of Research Associate (rough NDU equivalent to Assistant Professor), Associate Research Fellow (~Associate Professor), or Senior Research Fellow (~Full Professor). Annual salary range is about $64,000 to $143,000 based on rank and qualifications. Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. or a graduate degree plus at least three, five or ten years of experience (corresponding to rank). Successful applicants will also demonstrate scholarly promise through academic/publishing record or administrative and analytical skills by virtue of previous positions related to national security affairs or education.
