Professor and Assistant Professor

The Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies (CHDS), a premier civilian institution for defense and security studies and education in the Americas, invites applications for two positions, a Professor of National Security Studies and an Assistant Professor of National Security position with both to begin Fall 2010. 

Located at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., the Center's mission is to provide education, conduct outreach, research and knowledge-sharing activities, on defense and international security policy-making with civilian and military leaders of the Western Hemisphere. CHDS also works with the regional security community to advance international security policy and defense decision-making processes, foster partnerships, and promote effective civil-military relations in democratic societies. In addition CHDS makes substantial contributions to a cooperative international security environment and the mutual understanding of priority U.S. and regional defense and international security policy issues.

These positions are open to all nationalities. We are seeking applicants with diverse experience in defense and security matters. Successful applicants with be responsible to develop, organize and teach the curriculum in area(s) of expertise for the Center's various programs especially related to the Western Hemisphere.

Applicants for the Professor position will ideally possess a Ph.D. in a related field. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position should posses a post-graduate degree from an accredited educational institution. If the equivalent degree is from a non-US institution, the candidate must present support documentation for evaluation and validation by a US institution.

Fluency in English and Spanish is required, Portuguese or French is highly desired
