Command Overview PROFESSOR OF NUCLEAR ENTERPRISE OPERATIONS
Who May Be Considered: Applications will be accepted from residents of the United States. Job Summary: Air University (AU) invites applicants for a faculty position
covered by the provisions of Title 10 of the United States Code. AU
is the home of US Air Force professional military education, and is
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Faculty
positions are term appointments under excepted service with an initial
appointment up to 3 years, with follow-on appointments thereafter as the
norm. AU is seeking a candidate for a full-time position of Professor of
Nuclear Enterprise Operations. The
successful candidate will teach within Air University Colleges and schools
and conduct research within related areas.
The candidate will also support systematic efforts to develop
Airmen’s Nuclear Enterprise Operations and National Strategy knowledge
through career-long learning. The successful candidate will work in the Spaatz Center, located at
Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. AU
provides instruction to Air Force personnel ranging from junior enlisted
to senior officers, as well as members of allied armed forces and Civil
Service employees. Duties Major Duties: Teaches within Air University Colleges and schools and develops
nuclear enterprise operations curriculum for use by other Air University
faculty members. Conducts
individual and supervises student research.
Serves as the principal Air University authority on the Nuclear
Enterprise. Performs
administrative support functions and special projects such as serving on
committees, reviewing or responding to requests for information, and
delivering informational briefings to visitors in support of AU. Qualifications and Evaluation Qualifications: Assistant Professor: A
relevant (in the field specified in the academic title or a closely
related field) earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution or
federal degree granting institution or equivalent experience and
professional recognition. Demonstrated
potential for effective teaching, research, consultation, and other
scholarly and professional activities.
Associate Professor: A
relevant (in the field specified in the academic title or a closely
related field) earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution or
federal degree granting institution or an appropriate terminal
professional or academic degree. Evidence
of sustained teaching effectiveness; research, scholarly, creative, and
professional activities including publication in appropriate professional
journals, books, or monographs; discipline-related community service and
no less than 5 years of significant professional experience, normally a
minimum of 3 years of full-time university level teaching at the rank of
Assistant Professor. Subject matter expert in the areas of nuclear enterprise and
operations; nuclear deterrence theory; relevance and role of nuclear
weapons to include strategy and policy; nuclear enterprise and
organization; regional nuclear security issues to include proliferation
and non-proliferation; nuclear employment; history of nuclear weapons and
AF lessons learned to include recent events; nuclear surety to include
Personal Reliability Program (PRP) compliance, safety, security, and
reliability. To qualify based on education, submit copy of transcript or list of
courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class
