DIRECTORY OF ISA COOPERATING ORGANIZATIONS


Cooperating Organizations are a network of international studies groups accredited by ISA to promote contacts among specialists and practitioners and facilitate scientific and cultural exchange. ISA seeks to provide channels of communication between academics and policy-makers to promote a successful link between the production of knowledge and its utilization. Cooperating Organizations are invited to participate in ISA's activities, including the annual convention, and various international conferences and joint workshops. Cooperating Organizations are entitled to a quota of panels at our annual convention and our international conferences. Other benefits of cooperating status include reciprocity in web site promotion, publicity and announcements, and shared Internet resources, including the ISA e-mail list and web log.

African Politics Conference Group (APCG) 
The African Politics Conference Group promotes recognition within professional associations of the theoretical and methodological contributions to the discipline by political scientists whose research and professional interests center largely or in part upon sub-Saharan Africa. 

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities. AAAS publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide.

American Political Science Association (APSA) 
The American Political Science Association, founded in 1903, is the leading professional organization for the study for political science and serves more than 15,000 members in over 80 countries. With a range of programs and services for individuals, departments and institutions, APSA brings together political scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe in order to expand awareness and understanding of politics. 

Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS)
ISA welcomes the Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS) as affiliated cooperating organization. Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS), formerly Chinese Scholars of Political Science and International Studies, is a non-profit, non-political organization for scholarly and professional activities. ACPS was founded in 1986 in the United States to promote academic exchange among Chinese scholars and American scholars of China studies. In 1995, the organization changed its name to Association of Chinese Political Studies, and since then the organization is for all who study Chinese politics. Currently the organization has over 400 members from various parts of the world. Eighty percent of them are male and 20% of them are female. ACPS publishes scholarly books, newsletters, and a refereed academic journal -- Journal of Chinese Political Science.

 

Association For Canadian Studies In The United States (ACSUS)
ACSUS coordinates programs and further research in Canadian studies and works closely with academics, business executives, and government officials in striving for an improved understanding of issues affecting the Canada-U.S. bilateral relationship. ACSUS also works as a liaison with regional Canadian studies associations as well as the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) in order to provide ACSUS members with a broad base of information, research and networking opportunities. ACSUS is now the largest organization of Canadian studies specialists in the world.

Association For Israel Studies/Israeli Studies Association (AIS)
The Association for Israel Studies is an international scholarly society devoted to the academic and professional study of Israel. The Association's membership is composed of scholars from all disciplines in the social sciences and many in the humanities.

Association of Korean Political Studies (AKPS)
This association is a non-political and non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of scholarly exchange and academic inquiries among political scientists.


Atlantic Council of the United States  
The Atlantic Council promotes constructive U.S. leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic community in meeting the international challenges of the 21st Century. The Council embodies a nonpartisan network of leaders who aim to bring ideas to power and to give power to ideas by:  stimulating dialogue and discussion about critical international issues with a view to enriching public debate and promoting consensus on appropriate responses in the Administration, the Congress, the corporate and nonprofit sectors, and the media in the United States and among leaders in Europe, Asia and the Americas; conducting educational and exchange programs for successor generations of U.S. leaders so that they will come to value U.S. international engagement and have the knowledge and understanding necessary to develop effective policies. 

 

Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP)
The Austrian Institute for International Affairs (OIIP) is an independent, non-university scientific research institute located in Vienna. OIIP initiates communication processes that enhance awareness of international political systems and promotes the identity of Austria. It helps to define the position of Austria in the international community. In view of its ambivalent history and tradition, Austria is called upon to play an active role in developing European culture that affirms the existing variety and sustains common European values. OIIP develops realistic approaches to international problems and conflicts. 

 

British International Studies Association (BISA)
The British International Studies Association is an independent academic organization which promotes the study of International Relations and related subjects through teaching, research and the facilitation of contacts between scholars. It is the professional organization for academics and practitioners of International Relations in the United Kingdom. 

Brazilian International Relations Association (ABRI)
The Brazilian International Relations Association (ABRI) was established on September 30th, 2005 during the National Seminar on The Study of International Relations in Brazil held in Belo Horizonte (MG). ABRI is a product of the cooperation effort of the main university and research institutions which have structured programs dedicated to provide graduate degrees and research activities in the field of International Relations. The establishment of ABRI is a true landmark in the process of consolidating International Relations as a distinct academic area in Brazil, a long sought objective among students and researchers in our country. 


Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP)
The Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP) is a scientific association, which gathers professionals and graduate students in the field. It aims at promoting the exchange of ideas, the debate of problems, a high level of professional ethics, and the defense of shared interests in the field of Political Science. 

Center for Political and Strategic Studies (ACPSS; Egypt)
ACPSS was established as an independent research unit within the framework of the Al Ahram Foundation. After 1972, it expanded the scope of its research beyond Zionism, Israeli society and the Palestinian issue to cover the comprehensive study of political and strategic issues, patterns of interaction between Arab countries and the international system, and regional frameworks. The center is also interested in studying the political, economic, military and social aspects of Egyptian society.

Center for Social Studies/Peace Studies Group of the University of Coimbra (CES/NEP; Portugal)
The Centre for Social Studies (CES), founded in 1978, is a research institution in the area of the social sciences affiliated with the School of Economics of the University of Coimbra. It is directed by Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos and has 80 researchers, as well as 19 associate researchers and 40 junior researchers. Several of its researchers are full-time researchers. All other researchers combine work at CES with teaching (mainly at the School of Economics and at the Faculty of Arts) or with other professional activities. The research team includes sociologists, economists, legal scholars, anthropologists, educators, literary and cultural studies scholars, architects, geographers, historians, and medical doctors.

Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA)
The Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA) was founded in February 1996 by the members of the International Affairs Network and by the Department of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University. The Association is envisioned to be the region's premier professional organization with a membership open to anyone interested in the field of International Affairs (broadly defined). The Association will help rebuild the discipline of International Affairs in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) at the highest possible possible quality standards.

Committee for the Analysis of Military Operations and Strategy (CAMOS)
CAMOS is a group of scholars and practitioners interested in political aspects of military operations and strategy. Our aim is to provide venues for those interested in political-military affairs to discuss their work and renew and expand their acquaintances. As an affiliated group of the ISA, we sponsor panels and host receptions at the Association’s annual meetings.

The European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) is an independent, scholarly association, which supports and encourages the training, research and cross-national cooperation of political scientists in institutions throughout Europe and beyond.

European Union Studies Association
The European Union Studies Association (EUSA) is the premier scholarly and professional association, worldwide, focusing on the European Union, the ongoing integration process, and transatlantic relations. EUSA now has 1700 members throughout North America, all EU member states, and on all continents, representing the social sciences, the humanities, business and law practitioners, news media, and governments on both sides of the Atlantic. We welcome as members all those interested in any aspect of European integration, European Union affairs, and the transatlantic relationship.

Foreign Policy Association (FPA)
The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring the American public to learn more about the world. Founded in 1918, FPA provides independent publications, programs and forums to increase public awareness of, and foster popular participation in, matters relating to those policy issues.

Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS)
The Graduate School of International Studies at Ewha Womans University provides a unique educational program in international trade and international cooperation for aspiring women from around the world. It offers a comprehensive program, which includes in-class lectures and seminars, internships at domestic and international governmental and non-governmental organizations and businesses, intensive language and computer skill training, workshops on international negotiations taught by the Conflict Management Group(CMG) of the U.S., and participation in international conferences and academic symposiums. Through the high standard of training and education at GSIS, students develop solid analytical skills, learn effective writing as well as oral communication skills, develop collaborative and team work skills, and become effective and efficient in decision-making. Learning at GSIS is a truly dynamic experience, the students are well prepared to become professionals in international trade and international cooperation, and also to continue their education in related fields. 

 

Human Rights Internet (HRI, Canada)
Founded in 1976, HRI is a leader in the exchange of information within the worldwide human rights community. Launched in the United States, HRI has its headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. From Ottawa, HRI communicates by phone, fax, mail and the Internet with more than 5,000 organizations and individuals around the world working for the advancement of human rights.

Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Hungary)
The Academy is a scholarly public body founded on the principle of self-government, whose main task is the study of science, the publicizing of scientific achievements, and the aid and promotion of research.

Independent Center for Strategic Studies
Established in 1985, the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) has been an important source of independent information and research on a broad range of national and international issues affecting Yugoslavia.

 
Institute for Experiential Learning (IEL)
The Institute for Experiential Learning (IEL), an educational nonprofit organization, is committed to individual development through excellence in experiential education. Active learning by participants, including disciplined reflection about individual goals, intercultural competence, and personal attention from IEL staff, are at the heart of IEL’s mission.

Institute for International Relations in Zagreb (IMO)
The Institute for International Relations (IMO) aims to increase public awareness of the most important policy issues in the fields of international relations and communication, as well as of the Croatian international position.

Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies (IDSS)  
The IDSS was established in July 1996 as an autonomous research institute within the Nanyang Technological University. As stated in its Mission Statement, IDSS exists to develop a community of scholars and policy analysts at the forefront of Asia-Pacific security studies and international affairs. Its objectives are to: conduct research on security, strategic and international issues; provide general and graduate education in strategic studies, international relations and international political economy; promote join and exchange programmes with similar regional and international institutions; and organize seminars/conferences on topics salient to the strategic and policy communities of the Asia-Pacific region.

The IAPSS mission is about generating and promoting opportunities for full actualization of political science students cooperating through a global communication network.

The ISN’s mission is to promote global security and cooperation by collecting, managing, and sharing specialized information for the international relations and security community. The ISN achieves this through the use of information and communication technology.

International Social Science Council (ISSC)
The ISSC is an international non-profit-making scientific organization with headquarters at UNESCO House in Paris. Its aims and objectives are the promotion of the understanding of human society in its environment by fostering the social and behavioural sciences throughout the world and their application to major contemporary problems and by enhancing co-operation by means of a global international organisation of social and behavioural scientists and social and behavioural science organisations, encouraging multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary co-operation among the members of the ISSC.

Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East Central Europe
The Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East-Central Europe was established in September 1997 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University with the aim of building bridges and networks for peace across Southeastern and East-Central Europe and between the region and the rest of the world. The Kokkalis Program is an integrated network of educational and research activities that aims to support the transition to democracy and market economy now underway in the Balkans by bringing together senior policy-makers, scholars and students.

The Middle East Studies Association (MESA) is a non-political association that fosters the study of the Middle East, promotes high standards of scholarship and teaching, and encourages public understanding of the region and its peoples through programs, publications and services that enhance education, further intellectual exchange, recognize professional distinction, and defend academic freedom.  

 

Nordic International Studies Association (NISA)
The Nordic International Studies Association (NISA) was founded in October 1991 to promote research, advanced study and contact among academics and practitioners in the field of international studies in the Nordic countries. The Association encourages the advancement of knowledge across disciplinary boundaries, analytical approaches, institutions and nations. NISA facilitates contacts with international studies research communities outside the Nordic area. Towards these ends, NISA has taken responsibility for the premier scholarly journal in the field: Cooperation and Conflict, published by SAGE Publications. NISA arranges Nordic conferences of international studies and graduate student training workshops

Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA)
The Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA) is a regional research and capacity-building organization founded in 1980 in the town of Nazareth, Ethiopia, by a group of social scientists from Eastern Africa. Its constituency is based on membership drawn from individuals and institutions engaged in teaching and/or research. Currently, it has national chapters and liaison offices in 21 countries in the region. This include: Botswana, Burundi,Comoros Islands, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar,Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa,Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. However, its mandate extends to the whole sub-region. Institutional membership is open to all institutions, within or outside the region, engaged in the promotion of research in the social sciences in Africa. OSSREA’s head office is located in the Main Campus of Addis Ababa University, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Peace Science Society (International)
The Peace Science Society (International), or PSS(I), encourages the development of peace analysis and conflict management. PSS(I) does not confine itself to ideas specific to peace research, but welcomes and utilizes relevant work of the social and natural sciences. A primary concern of the Society is the improvement of social science theory as it relates to international relations. PSS(I) facilitates acquaintance and provides a vehicle for discussion among its members and others worldwide. It encourages and supports the publication of research, particularly but not exclusively quantitative research. PSS(I) avoids social, religious, or national bias. It does not promote political action or polemical discussion.

Phi Beta Delta Honor Society
The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars honors those who serve internationalism - the idea of a world connected, of respect for different traditions, of the need for education to enhance knowledge of the many cultures that are part of a globe that we all must share.

Policy Studies Organization  
The Policy Studies Organization includes more than 800 universities and institutions in its membership as well as individuals in more than 80 countries. From its headquarters in an historic house near Dupont Circle in Washington, once the home of the families of President James Garfield and the labor leader Samuel Gompers, the society organizes conferences, seminars, the publication of journals and books, and an increasing Internet presence.

Society for Women in International Political Economy (SWIPE)
The Society for Women in International Political Economy (SWIPE) serves junior women and others in our discipline through its mentoring and networking activities. In existence since the early 1990s, SWIPE has over 150 members. We distribute a quarterly electronic newsletter and hold regular meetings at major political science conferences. Each year, we host a reception with the Women’s Caucus and Feminist Theory and Gender Studies at the International Studies Association annual meeting. At this reception, we present our annual Mentor Award to recognize an individual who has made exemplary efforts on behalf of junior women.

The Standing Group on International Relations of the ECPR (SGIR)
The SGIR is a broad-based network of scholarly activities relating to the study of international relations. Broad-based is to say that it brings together IR specialists from many sectors of activity - universities, independent research institutes and public administration - and from all over Europe. The activities are above all the European Journal of International Relations, our conferences, our newsletter, and our summer school. 

The Stanley Foundation's World Press Review (WPR)
Worldpress.org is a nonpartisan magazine whose mission is to foster the international exchange of perspectives and information. It contains articles reprinted from the press outside the United States, as well as originally written material. Our goal is to foster a globally engaged citizenry, which acts not only in its own country's interest, but also in the interests of the world community. The Stanley Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, private operating foundation  focused on promoting and building support for principled multilateralism in addressing international issues.

Support for Improvement in Governance and Management in Central and Eastern European Countries (SIGMA)
Support for Improvement in Governance and Management in Central and Eastern European Countries (SIGMA)  is a joint initiative of the OECD and the European Union. The initiative advises transition countries on improving public governance at the central government level. SIGMA comprises two expert teams that provide individually tailored services to 15 countries. One team counsels the ten European Union candidate countries of Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on financial control, external audit and the civil service, and complementing the EU's twinning programme. The other team works with countries in the Western Balkans to strengthen public institutions, giving particular emphasis to budget, treasury and taxes; financial control and external audit; and civil service and administrative reform.

Taiwan International Studies Association (TISA)
Taiwan International Studies Association (TISA), founded in 1903, is a premier scholarly and professional organization, focusing on the study of the international studies. TISA brings together scholars from wide range disciplines and field of inquiry, and the main task is the study of various countries, promotion of international research and publications, and provide scholarly exchange and discussion within the nation and among the world.

 

Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research
The Toda Institute is an independent, nonpartisan, and nonprofit organization committed to the pursuit of peace with peaceful means and a complete abolition of war. In cooperation with other peace organizations that resist injustice and resolve conflict, the Institute aims at maximizing the efforts of people of peace of all colors and creeds everywhere. In helping to promote peace initiatives at national, regional, and international levels, the Institute encourages and proposes concrete strategies that can be translated into action. For the next few years, The Institute will focus on an international dialogue on four major themes: (1) Human Security and Global Governance, (2) Human Rights and Global Ethics, (3) Social Justice and Global Economy, and (4) Cultural Identity and Global Citizenship.

 

Turkish International Studies Association
The Turkish International Studies Association, a North America
based organization, is a network of scholars working on Turkey . TISA brings together international relations and political science scholars from all specialties and regions within the academe in order to expand awareness and understanding of international politics. To this end TISA will be cooperating with the International Studies Association (ISA).

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars
Now in its 30th year, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) is a vital nonprofit organization serving hundreds of colleges and universities in the U.S. and other countries by providing selected students challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C. for academic credit. The largest such program, TWC has over 33,000 alumni, leaders in numerous professions and nations around the world. 


World International Studies Committee (WISC)
WISC is formed by 20 international, regional and national international studies associations or sections of political studies associations, including: the Brazilian Political Science Association, British International Studies Association (BISA), Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA), Chinese Association of Political Science (Taipei), Croatian Association for International Studies, European Consortium for Political Research – Standing Group for International Relations (ECPR – SGIR), French Political Science Association – International Studies Section (AFSP – SEI), German Association of Political Science – International Relations Section, Hong Kong Political Science Association, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, International Studies Association (ISA), Israeli Association of International Studies (IAIS), Japanese Association of International Relations (JAIR), Korean Association of International Studies (KAIS), Latin American School of Social Sciences (FLACSO), Mexican International Studies Association (MISA), Nordic International Studies Association (NISA), Portuguese Association of the History of International Relations (APHRI), Russian International Studies Association (RISA), Turkish Political Science Association.

Women In International Security (WIIS)
WIIS is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization dedicated to increasing the influence of women in foreign and defense affairs by raising their numbers and visibility, while enhancing dialogue on international security issues. WIIS offers a comprehensive set of programs designed to foster and promote women in all fields related to international security, and in a variety of sectors.
