THIRD
INTERNATIONAL CISS/ISA MILLENNIUM SERIES
HEIDELBERG, JUNE 25-26, 2001
ASSESSING AND RESPONDING TO POLICY IMPERATIVES FOR A COMPLEX WORLD: GLOBAL, REGIONAL, NATIONAL, AND LOCAL DIMENSIONS
The third international conference of the Millennium Series continues the interdisciplinary dialogue on a complex and rapidly changing international system that distinguished the reflections of the earlier conferences in the series. The diverse challenges of the new century point to the need for creative and effective policies that can be applied at many levels, relying on cooperation and integration between the many decision making institutions and bodies. The dynamics of integration and disintegration underlie the difficulties of reaching a consensus on such matters. The conference focuses on the need for identifying policy approaches at the global, regional, national and local levels, which effectively deal with the problems that confront the contemporary international community, while simultaneously bridging political, cultural, and economic divides. The millennium series forum encourages a gathering of members of the academic community, policy makers, and other professionals to participate in a two day retreat to engage in an intensive exchange of research and experience. The meeting proposes to cross-disciplinary and professional boundaries in seeking to find new perspectives and paradigms of understanding.
