The Global Imperative: Responding to Change in the International System

call for papers

The Sixth International CISS Millennium Conference seeks to explore the scope and complexity of the contemporary challenges and opportunities confronting the global community, as well as the need for examining the current policy environment.  A primary challenge facing the international system is the need to construct an effective policy framework to deal with the increasingly large number of transnational problems. The conference will encourage discussion of the imperative for global, regional, and multi-level cooperation as an essential strategy for managing the challenges of the twenty first century.

The conference proposes to address many of the dilemmas and prospects that are confronting us, including:

  the transformation of Europe as it strives for a new identity in the contemporary world order;
  the future of the trans-Atlantic partnership;
▪  new security alignments in the international system;
  the challenges of international terrorism;
▪  the threat of weapons of mass destruction;
▪  international law and norms of international behavior;
▪  human rights;
▪  disease, natural disasters, and environmental issues;

Members of the international studies community, including scholars, policy makers, and other interested professionals, are invited to propose papers, panels, and roundtables to engage in a cross professional and interdisciplinary discourse in the surroundings of this historic city.  All proposals should include name, affiliation, contact information, and a 150 word description of their presentations.
